UU the Vote

Faith. Love. Action.

Together.

UU the Vote is a non-partisan faith initiative of the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA), in partnership with broader justice movements, to engage our neighbors, educate our communities, mobilize voters, and rally around key ballot initiatives. We join with UUs everywhere to create a future defined by love, justice, and faith.

UU the Vote 2020 campaign is leading congregations and UU organizations in activating thousands of UUs in 2020 to mobilize voters, counter voter suppression, and engage in spiritually grounded, values-based issue conversations with voters in their communities.

The stakes couldn’t be higher in the 2020 elections.

Directly or indirectly, the issues so many of us care most deeply about — climate change, LGBTQ rights, immigration, racial justice and more — will be on the ballot in 2020.

This is a grassroots campaign that relies on grassroots support. Together we’re going to bring our passion to the polls to #VoteLove and #DefeatHate.

Here are ways that UUCR members can get actively involved in UU the Vote 2020:

  • Vote Forward is a 501(c)(4) non-profit organization. Its mission is to empower grassroots volunteers to help register voters from under represented demographics and encourage them to vote. Vote Forward builds tools to enable Americans, wherever they may be, to encourage fellow citizens to participate in our democracy. To join in the letter-writing or voter registration activities of Vote forward, register here. The goal is to write seven million letters, and volunteers have already written five million. Mailing date is October 17.
  • If you prefer to call voters to encourage them to vote, UU the Vote 2020 Phonebanking effort has several more scheduled evenings. Registration is necessary. As of September 23, UU the Vote volunteers had contacted 1,370,052 registered voters to encourage them to vote and to assist them in requesting mail-in ballots and locating the closest voting site. Scheduled phonebanks will be happening on September 30, October 7, October 21, October 24, October 27, and November 2. You and hundreds other UUs across the country will be calling voters in Florida and Wisconsin. You will need a computer and a cell phone. Training is provided before the start of each session.
  • RE families at UUCR can participate in this campaign to “get out the vote” by contacting Sally Liebermann at [email protected] and requesting a packet of business-size envelopes to decorate and share messages to encourage voting on November 3rd. Sally will get theses envelopes to Vote Forward letter writers, who will put their letters in these envelopes and mail them around the first week in October. We believe recipients of these envelopes will be even more intrigued to open them to see the message inside.

Each of us must be ready to vote.

Plan how you are going to vote. Will it be by absentee ballot? If so, plan to complete your ballot as soon as you receive it and mail it. Make sure you follow all the directions for completing and mailing your ballot. If possible, opt to personally deliver your ballot to a secure drop-in box in your town or city. You can find locations of these boxes on the web site of the Massachusetts Secretary of State: https://www.sec.state.ma.us/ele/eleev/ev-find-my-election-office.htm. If you have questions, contact the uucrUUTV team by email [email protected].
