Music is at the Very Heart of Worship Life at UUCR

Music speaks to the soul loudly and deeply and is an integral part of worship here. Our staff, musicians, and choir contribute to our services and reflect the spirit and energy of our church community. Our dynamic and engaging music program offers ways for members and visitors to participate through singing in the choir, as guest musicians, and as drummers.

During this socially distanced time, we continue to create opportunities for connection, artistry, and celebration. Our virtual presence is new and exciting, as it takes advantage of all that digital mediums have to offer.

Our Choir

Choir is open to all members and friends of the church. Led by Mary Cunningham, Music Director, and accompanied by Trevor Berens, Pianist, this choir of 30+ talented and dedicated singers enhances worship with a wide variety of beautiful music drawn from classical, folk, contemporary, gospel, and world traditions.

The choir sings three services per month from September through mid-June, including special celebrations at Thanksgiving, Easter, and Christmas Eve. Because music empowers us to act upon our beliefs and inspires us to recommit to our covenant, the choir also prepares larger works, such as  Kendyl Gibbons and Jason Shelton’s “Sources,” celebrating the diverse roots of Unitarian Universalists’ beliefs, and John Kramer’s cantata The Immigrant Experience.

Featured Musicians

Musicians from our congregation enrich our services with their many talents. Coordinated by the Music Director, guitarists, keyboardists, vocal soloists and ensembles, wind and string players, and percussionists grace our services several times each month.
