Congregants with comforting hands on the shoulder of another

Pastoral Care

UUCR’s Pastoral Care Team is a central part of the congregation’s shared ministry, greatly extending the pastoral reach of the Minister. In cooperation with the Minister and Ministerial Intern, this group of specially trained volunteers attends to the pastoral needs of the congregation.

Through phone calls, notes, and visits, the Pastoral Care Team connects with those who are feeling isolated or experiencing a loss or stressful situation.

The Team is available to help coordinate memorial service receptions.

The Pastoral Care Team also leads special events to meet particular needs. “When the Holidays Hurt” is a service of peace presented each December, and group “Caring Conversations” meetings take place weekly online during the pandemic. The Milo Ministry offered a caring space to grieve the loss of a pet, and The Conversation Project helped congregants to define and express end-of-life wishes.

Members of the lay Pastoral Care Team are trained to listen without judgment and to keep all discussions confidential.
