Adult Anti-Racism Learning Opportunity

UUCR is hosting this summer a 5 week online course called Conversations About Whiteness

We welcome volunteer leaders Benny Wheat and Jen Boetcher who are both past participants in this program and who have become facilitators. The curriculum is based on similar grass-roots courses offered around the country. UUCR is grateful to our facilitators who will offer these sessions at no charge. Together we will explore how white people can, and must, work together to disrupt racism.

Using video clips, articles, and group activities ‘Conversations About Whiteness’ brings people together to explore aspects of our culture that prevent white people from seeing themselves and people of color without deeply seeded distortions. During our five weekly two-hour sessions we will reflect on unconscious biases, white privilege, race and racism. We’ll research systemic racism in institutions and practice skills to disrupt racism; we’ll brainstorm about how we can collaborate with each other and how we can support others in action for justice. We will conclude this program with commitments to actions that will disrupt racism in ourselves and our communities.

Advanced registration is required and leaders ask participants to attend all 5 weeks. Spots are limited so we encourage you to sign up quickly. UUCR members and friends are receiving the first invitations to this program. Meetings are Wednesday evenings (7/14 – 8/11) on Zoom from 6:30-8:30 pm.
