Sharing with “Helping Our Troops”

Our March Share the Plate Recipient is “Helping Our Troops”

Each Sunday, UUCR shares half the money received in the collection plate with a non-profit organization that shares our UU values. It’s a simple, yet powerful way for each of us to “Help Heal the World.”  Our Share the Plate recipient for the month of March is “HELPING OUR TROOPS.”   http://helpingourtroopsma.org/

HELPING OUR TROOPS (H.O.T) is an all-volunteer, 501(c)(3) non-profit based in Stoneham. It was created in November 2006 by two Vietnam veterans, Frank Geary and Walter Kopek. H.O.T. supports service members from Massachusetts who are serving overseas by sending them monthly care packages. It also takes care of any Special Forces, Combat Support Medical units, Military Hospital or Medivac units, and chaplains of any denomination.

Over the years H.O.T. has supported over 42,000 soldiers and shipped out over 150 tons of goods to troops serving around the world including Afghanistan and Iraq. H.O.T.’s Mission is not political.  It is solely to send love and support to our local soldiers while they are away from home by sending them personal care items, snacks, drinks and games.  H.O.T. is supported by local community groups, businesses, schools, grocery stores and churches.

Helping Our Troops was nominated as our Share the Plate Recipient by Mary Binderman. Their mission reminds her of when her family would send care packages to her twin brother Larry, who gave his life for our country while serving in Vietnam.

Please give generously to our virtual Sunday Share the Plate Offering to support our overseas troops, to honor all the men and women in our congregation who have served our great country, and to support the mission of UUCR.  You may \click here to donate\.\<\/a\>
