War shapes all of us, those who are in combat and those who are privileged enough to be able to ignore it as well as those who protest against it. The continuing appeal of war to the human psyche has been written about from the time of the Iliad, but what is it that makes war so intoxicating for soldiers, politicians and ordinary citizens? Did the ancients have it right when they made war a God? Let us all ask what role war plays in our lives.
