I admire people whose faith and religious traditions give them peace as they contemplate the mystery of the great beyond and search for guidance about how to live a life of meaning and purpose. From a young age, the concept of heaven has always made me a bit uneasy. It seemed to me that we were asked to live life to assure that we land in a place that for many holds great promise, but in actuality made me quite anxious. Inspired by those whose faith gives them wisdom, hope, and certainty, and motivated by our 4th principle that encourages a free and responsible search for truth and meaning, I have found peace and guidance in a few principles and laws of science. Can an appreciation for the law of conservation of matter add to your own search for truth and meaning? Can the peace you find in your own faith and religious traditions be enhanced by the contemplation of the elements and molecules of our universe? Let’s explore these ideas together.
