Our Share the Plate Recipient for the month of May is Understanding Disabilities, Inc. (UD). UD has provided disability awareness programming in the Reading Public Schools for 36 years. They provide a comprehensive disability awareness curriculum in the elementary and middle schools that builds empathy and gives students the tools to act compassionately and respectfully at school today and in society tomorrow.

Many UUCR members have helped Understanding Disabilities grow and thrive over the years.  Currently, Allison Sillers is the Program Director and Lee Lucas is on the Board.

This church year, the new UUCR Accessibility and Inclusion Ministry (AIM) team has begun working to become an AIM Certified congregation. Supporting Understanding Disabilities is one way to confirm our congregation’s commitment to welcome, embrace, integrate, and support people with disabilities and their families.
