The hymn “Come, Come, Whoever You are” holds the words of Jelaluddin Rumi: “Come, come, whoever you are…Ours is not a caravan of despair. Come, even if you have broken your vows a thousand times. ” It is part of the human experience that we sometimes make, and break, promises. Yet an enduring faith, and belief in a loving presence (who some call God) calls on us to renew our faith – in one another, in the world, even in the presence of the unknown. Where does renewal come from, even at the most challenging of times – and how do we hold on to a saving faith that we can, and will, be renewed – again and again?
