Unitarian Universalists do not embrace a creed, but we do hold a set of principles that guide our faith. These principles form our ‘living tradition,’ and we take as inspiration teachings from six sources, drawn from contributions of science, poetry, scripture, and personal experience. They are:
-
Transcending mystery and wonder
-
Words and deeds of prophetic people
-
Wisdom from the world’s religions
-
Jewish and Christian teachings
-
Humanist teachings and science
-
Spiritual teachings of earth-centered experience
Beyond these sources, there is “the promise” – of what the future holds for us, as faithful people who seek to use our beliefs to change the world for the better.
In 2015, UUCR presented Jason Shelton and Kendyl Gibbons’ stirring musical work, “Sources,” and lifted our spirits with music – both instrumental and vocal – and spoken word, both provocative and inspiring. Join us for an exploration of the Sources of our faith, presented by our worship team and featuring our recording of this remarkable piece, performed by the UUCR choir members and friends under the baton of UUCR music director, Mary Cunningham.
