March is for Commitment

The worship theme for March is Commitment, and you will find this thread all through our worship services. We begin with a service on our personal commitment to our spiritual beliefs, then to a service where we show the commitment that we make to our young people. The 21st has us celebrating our commitment that we make to each other and we end the month with Mr. Gregory Boyd from the UUA Board speaking to us about the commitment that we make to our Association and the Association to us.

I know that for many of us the idea of making a commitment sounds ludicrous, everything that we thought one year ago has been tossed up in the air. You might be asking yourself, “How can I make any commitments when there is so much uncertainty in the world?” The truth is that there is always uncertainty, but for many of us we have been insulated from it, or we have just forgotten those moments. Moments of uncertainty like when a child will be born, or if the Red Sox will win, or what first love is like, or what love after loss is like. Life is always uncertain, yet when we make commitments to people and ideas and communities, we are saying that we trust in the future and those commitments help to anchor us and they help us to move forward. So say yes to commitments when you get the chance.  –Hank
