The Conversation Project is a program which helps people talk about wishes for end-of-life care. Having these vital and intimate conversations can relieve confusion and stress during a major illness, can reduce grief and depression for caregivers, and can prevent lasting damage to relationships between families and loved ones.
Most people wish to have these important conversations but, for many reasons, most of us have not done so. The Conversation Project has developed materials to help us engage in these discussions. In the next months, we will be offering workshops and, using the Starter Kit, we will have as our goal engaging our loved ones in the conversation. If you’d like to preview the materials or learn more, visit: The Conversation Project.
The workshops will be in two parts, each about 90 minutes long and about a month apart, and limited to 15 participants in each. In the first meeting, we will share more information about The Conversation Project, discuss among one another our experiences – or lack of experiences – that we have had in discussing end-of-life issues, and introduce the Starter Kit.
In the weeks between sessions, your goal will be to engage in the conversation and, in the second session, we will come together again to share our stories of how it went and what our next steps should be. Attendance will be expected for both sessions.
We hope to capture a diverse cross-section of our UUCR community. This is not just for older folks! People of all ages are encouraged to attend. We are offering meetings at different times to accommodate as many as possible. The dates and times are:
Sunday, May 5, and Sunday, June 9, both from 12:00-1:30
Tuesday, April 9, and Tuesday, May 14, both from 7:00-8:30
Thursday, April 11, and Thursday, May 9, both from 10:00-11:30
