Special Features

At a minimum, each team, committee, program and group in the church will be represented by an Overview on the Get Involved Overviews page, generally provided by the Programs Council and managed by the webmasters.

The more active groups in the church will have their own web presence. For consistency, each group's web presence is a set of five features:

  • Summary
  • News
  • Journal (added in 2012)
  • Calendar (added in 2012)
  • Discussion (coming soon)
Summary

The Summary is a full page article (or several) about the work of the team or committee. A link to the Summary will be provided in the Get Involved menu. The Summary will be public. It will generally start empty (unless there was appropriate content for the Summary available at the time the new website went live). Teams and committees will be invited to provide new or updated content.

News

News is a list of articles about something that has recently happened or planned to happen. News is generally presented "most recent first". A news article can be a draft, or published into the church newsletter. Drafts are only visible to authorized, logged-in users - generally other people authorized to enter news for that same group within the church. Published articles are visible publicly, on the News page devoted to the team, committee, or program that the article pertains to. Once published into the newsletter, the article will appear both on the News page for the team, committee or program, and in the newsletter.

Beginning in December 2011, the process for getting news articles published will change. Each team, committee and program will enter drafts of news articles onto the website themselves. Then the team, committee or program can request that the church administrator publish the article into the church newsletter.

Calendar

This page hosts a calendar showing the group's upcoming events. Events are visible publicly.

Journal

The Journal includes articles recording the proceedings of group meetings, published so that the entire congregation can keep up with the details of what groups are doing and what assistance they may need. Journal articles are only visible to registered members and friends of the church, not the general public. Only designated people from the church group the Journal is about are able to add, update, or publish Journal articles for that group.

Discussion

This page hosts discussion threads applicable to the church group. Discussions are visible to all registered, logged-in users, but only registered members and friends of the church can participate. This feature may be added sometime in 2012.
